WORKSHOPS
Our intention at Skeins is to encourage fellow crafters to learn and improve on their knitting, crocheting and general wooly skills and we are pleased to announce the following courses.
2010 WORKSHOP DATES
AUGUST
Saturday 14th,Sunday 15th, Saturday 21st,Sunday 22nd, Saturday 28th or Sunday 19th - 10 - 12 am.
Tutor Linda Irving (full CRB checked)
These sessions are designed for children aged 8+ and costs £18 per child per session and includes all materials, a drink and mid-morning snack. (Less 10% for siblings or bookings of 2 or more days. £32 per session for parent and child together)
Bookings are necessary.
SEPTEMBER
Saturday 18th - 10am - 3.30pm
FELT ACCESSORIES. During the day Linda Irving will teach you how to hand felt several accessories to add to your wardrobe or give as gifts. All materials and refreshements are included in the cost of £35.00. (Please bring your own lunch)
OCTOBER
Saturday 2nd - 10am - 3.30pm
BASIC/ BEGINNERS CROCHET
A full day course to learn to crochet or to renew your crocheting skills. Pauline Fitzpatrick tutored this workshop for Skeins last year and many have gone on to produce 'varied' items! All materials are included in the cost of £35 as are drinks (please fetch your own lunch). Booking is essential.
SATURDAY 9th FROM 10AM - 3.30PM
IMPROVERS CROCHET
This course, run by Pauline Fitzpatrick is for those who can already crochet but want to learn how to use their skills to produce items using more advanced stitches. There will be yarn available but please bring your own hooks and any yarn you would like to experiment with. The cost of this workshop is £35 and includes drinks but not lunch.
Saturday 16th - 10am - 3.30pm
KNITTING WITH COLOURS.
Debbie Tomkies from DT Craft and Design will tutor this workshop on how to use and add colour into your knitting using various techniques - Fair Isle, Intarsia and Swiss Darning. Most materials will be available however please feel free to bring any yarns you would like to use and a selection of knitting needles. The cost of this workshop is £35 and includes drinks but not lunch.
NOVEMBER
SATURDAY 13TH - FINISHINGS AND EDGINGS.
Debbie Tomkies is the tutor for this workshop teaching you how to finish off your project and how to add edgings to enhance it. Please fetch any projects that you would like help with (dig out that jumper that hasn't been sewn up/the neckband needs picking up and finishing!) Some materials are included. Refreshments are included but please bring your own lunch.
JANE THORNLEY WORKSHOPS
All the Jane Thornley Workshops include drinks and a light lunch (also suitable for vegetarians).
Sunday 31st October or Wednesday 2nd November (Sorry -there are noplaces left on this day)
Price: £75 per day per person (includes a selection of yarns to be used)
KNIT A PEAK with Jane Thornley.
'True evocative knitting at its best: knit a landscape, in this case the gorgeous Peak district in the autumn. Think stone walls and rolling hills amid sublime autumn hues. With yarn specially dyed for the occasion, what could be better? Knit a vest or a wallhanging and receive the Knit A Beach Evocative guide as part of the workshop from which Jane will show you how to play the field (or the meadow, or the pasture)....'
For this workshop you will require your own needles and a pair of scissors - there will be a selection of yarns to choose from which are included in the workshop cost.
Monday 1st November

Free-Range Knitting 101 Workshop with Jane Thornley
The Introductory class for those new to free-range knitting and who just feel the need to revisit the approach.
Participants are challenged to look at knitting and yarn completely differently - without fretting about mistakes and gauge - and to take control of their own knitting world. Instead of following a traditional pattern that points to only on e'right' result, the trick is to just let go and FLY!
For this workshop you will require
*10 -20 small balls of previously wound yarn (saves time!) in various colours and textures.
* Needles - 5mm,7mm,9mm. Circulars are fine if preferred.
* Scissors.
Thursday 3rd November
Price: £50 per person
Inspired Knitters Club with Jane Thornley.
This workshop is aimed at those who have (are thinking about) joined Jane's 'Inspired Knitter Club' but who would love to meet other like minded knitters and of course Jane herself. Materials for this workshop will be notified at a later date.
