Tips and Hints for your wool

You have chosen to use the best quality wool and yarn.

Here are some tips and hints to help you achieve the best results and keep your knitted items looking like new.

  1. When knitting with hand dyed yarn if using more than one skein wind into separate balls.  Work two rows from one ball and two rows from a second ball, alternating between the two.  This will eliminate there being an obvious join where one ball end and the next starts.
  2. Always hand wash your item using a liquid detergent especially designed for wool and natural fibres.  Rinse carefully keeping the water a constant temperature. To remove as much moisture as possible place the item either in a laundry bag or an old pillowcase and tie in a knot, then spin on a slow spin programme. It is not always possible to dry flat but can be placed on a drying rack in a warm room (not in front of a fire!).
  3. Hand dyed yarns can sometimes lose some colour into the water when first washed; this should not affect the colour of the yarn.

At Skeins we can provide you with all your knitting and crochet requirements.
